The smaller canine made her way forward toward Kaena, and instinctively the silver-shaded hybrid knelt down to the woman's level, reaching out with one hand. The scarred canine placed this hand awkwardly on one of Vieira's tawny shoulders, squeezing gently in reassurance. As the other canine straightened up, Kaena did as well, slumping into a seated position across from the Quintus. Her single eye remained on the other canine, a troubled look flickering across her scarred features. Once again the thought of the other canine being passed along lingered on the Centurion's mind; she was always close to death, and at her age, it was impossible to gauge how long she had left. She felt healthy enough; she was not sickly or weak, nor did she show signs of her age. Even so, this year, she would be eleven, and prior to the advent of Lupercism, such an age was unheard of in the wild. Frowning, the coyote rolled her ashen shoulders in a shrug.
“I don't really know. I got the impression she wasn't wanted anywhere else anymore,” the coyote woman said. “Astaroth isn't her father,” the coyote said suddenly, almost blurting this out. She did not think Vieira knew this; Eris hadn't up until very recently, after all. The ashen hued woman again shrugged, though one corner of her coal-colored lips lifted upwards. “Maybe that had something to do with it,” she mused, looking to Vieira. She knew nothing about the society that had spawned these two canines, and the tawny-furred woman might have more insight to Eris's sudden appearance rather than Kaena herself.
