The predator sought weakness within the prey. While there were many impulse moves that could hurt, the spear's edge had proven to be a force that he would not want to interrupt their little get-together. His own insides burned hollowly, driving him further in the all-consuming desire for the man's flesh and soul. Allowing his hind legs to take most of his remaining secui weight, the Loner's deadly jaws sought the wooden handle before Gabriel could regain his balance and control while claws continued to seek the dog's flesh. He continued to push, seeking to deny Gabriel the opportunity to regain the balance that already was slipping.
