Laughter roared in the demon’s ears, but all he could hear was the echoing rush of blood flowing out of his body and the impossibly soft sound of flesh and sinew was torn apart. Blue flares in a crimson stained face never left the impure being trapped beneath his crushing weight. It was weighting down the crazed canine as well; failing him for the first time he had been freed from his slumber. Fire danced brightly whenever the black, now deep scarlet blade moved against his fragile flesh. There was no room for thought anymore, yet the question continued to loom within his crippled mind. How could he have known?” Haku had been sent to murder and destroy, and this was not how it was done.

Bright white pain, the one that fueled him, made him aware of the soft belly ripping open. The decaying body had turned against him; had betrayed him when he had needed it most. Strength was scarce now; was flowing away along with the crimson blood and, as it seemed, life itself. The terrible knife terribly twisted, and the terrible demon that had haunted Gabriel for so long staggered—was forced to acknowledge gravity when strength no longer supported his failing body. He leaned into the cruel weapon—felt the man under him force it further. The weapon had been made to force his downfall, and willingly continued to cut.

Blue orbs that so many had loved and hated continued to burn against honey and fire. Time was a cruel master. Air was now a luxury that the male could no longer afford, as all that spilled down into his burning lungs was scarlet. The world was no longer his for the taking, the demon knew.
