Word Count :: 349 I would guess that after this post, whatever happens happened, and we can assume Harlowe runned away afterward? ^^; No moar posty for me? :O

It had been some time since Harlowe had last actually spoken with a living being. Even so, this was his sister, flesh and blood—there had never been awkwardness or the involuntary muteness that had seized Harlowe so many times before with strangers. Even so, he knew why Rio had been sent; he understood why it had to be her. THis was part of the reason she had been chosen to tempt him into staying—Harlowe should have struggled, he should have fought and wrestled with such a decision, and yet he was perfectly calm, rational, and thinking at hyperspeed, drawing his mind through and over and around and under every possibility, seeking some way out. He found there was none.

The chocolate-tipped canine looked at his sister, intense jade-colored eyes boring into her. She loved him—he loved her; there was no questioning this. Their siblings' bond was not enough to stop Harlowe, of course—it was because she was his sister that Rio had been chosen. She heard the call, she had felt the pull of Larkspur as well, but it had changed her differently than it had changed him. The tawny-furred youth had been brightened, drawn toward it—Rio had been whispered to in sinister and quiet tones, gently guided and directed to this very spot to tempt him. He could not ler her stop him; it had to hurt—it had hurt like hell when Mother left them, but Harlowe in turn had to go, and he could not allow Rio to hold him back.

Calculating eyes turned to the darker female, roving over her. She blocked the exit, the path to Larkspur and the Khalif and all of the brutal knowledge the youth sought. She was his roadblock, his test, his challenge: in order to advance, he had to hurt her—and himself—in the process. He took one slow step forward, and then faster, drawing her into the cave and reversing their positions so his back was to the entrance, and she was trapped inside. He could not allow her to follow him.
