The teenaged wolf had been having a pretty good morning, all things considered. His adopted children had been playing in their downstairs bedroom with the door mostly closed, ensuring that their play would not be disturbed. They normally took a nap around this same time each day, and he had waited to be sure that they were asleep before leaving the large house for a jog. He'd not been surprised to come across Conor on his way out, and the older male had taken his invitation to go out for a nice run.
However, what had begun as a nice carefree run had gone bad in an instant. He had been in the middle of asking Conor about when he ought to start introducing more meat into the pups' diets when he noticed a change in the alpha's posture. Gideon had slowed to a halt as soon as his leader had, and when Conor took off the younger male had followed him with haste.
Such a scene he had only seen once before in his life, when his mother had been killed by his grandmother in the mountains. He recognized one of the wolves before him, Saluce, but the other was foreign. An outsider. What wolf would come within a hundred yards of a pack's territory without permission, he wondered to himself. Even he knew better than that, at six months of age.
His hackles raised as Conor leaped forward toward the outsider, and a deep growl escaped his throat. He went to the other side of Saluce, fur standing on end, fangs bared at the outsider. Perhaps this show of force would be enough to drive the intruder off. If not, there were plenty of other members who he felt certain would lend a helping hand in this situation.
