Shaw could see the change right away, the way she lit up, her eyes first then the rest of her body, and then, nearly bowling him over she accepted, boy did she accept so enthusiastically that Shawchert was dumbfounded, first by her verbal reaction then her physical one. He’d not been hugged since his mother… so long ago, then just standing there, he let her, he would feel too guilty if she was sad… even though they’d just met, he patted her shoulder hoping that would ease her a little, but it didn’t and she talked, he couldn’t help but smile, and finally she let him go, it made him feel rather sad though, he liked the touch, he listened to her, his excitement about his pack, the things they all could do, the wolves they could make happy. Just listening to her whole explanation, it was exhilarating, the excitement in her eyes was intoxicating, he said not one word, he didn’t have to, she was doing everything for him. And then what came next took Shawchert for an immediate shock, she moved so quickly, he had little time to know what just happened, until her lips pressed against his, he felt something, and it wasn’t a bad feeling but a click in his brain, it seemed so right but he knew it was not, he was an honorable man and he would not let anything come between a friendship, especially the embarrassing moment they would never live down. He had no mate, but they’d just met, he put his hand calmly on her shoulder and pulled away slowly. He liked it, but he knew it was all in the excitement that was creasing through her veins right now. He did not want her regretting anything.

He was much more excited about Orin joining than most f the others, they all showed great enthusiasm, but she… she showed spirit, she showed ambition, she was what they needed… what he needed. He was so glad that he passed by under the tree today. It was well worth it.
