The call was unexpected, but it did not come with urgency and therefore did not require attention. Still, the fact that his mother was summoning not just him meant she had something planned. Gabriel rose with a grunt from where he had been napping, his sleep like that of a wolf, short and occurring every few hours. As he spotted the aging woman, he too noticed the stranger with her. Kaena seemed to know him, so Gabriel was unconcerned as he approached.
Not long after his arrival came Sepirah, who was just as he recalled her—eager. Young, but eager. She spoke to his mother first, then Gabriel, and the Aquila shook his head at her question. This meeting was not his doing. The next arrival startled him; it was if a tiny version of Cotl (with less tattoos) appeared and rushed towards Kaena. Gabriel’s ears rose high and he looked to his mother guessingly, more so as a deer trotted up behind him. Instinct told Gabriel that the thing was food, and he couldn’t help but let his gaze wander to it as such. Maybe they could eat the stupid thing in lieu of a hunt.
The elder coyote did not greet Gabriel, but the eyes that stung against his fur told him what he was being seen as. Wolf. He held his tongue, even as this gaze burnt into his flesh. A girl who was clearly Razekiel’s spawn arrived next, followed by a white hybrid he did not know, another of the Ulrich clan, and to his great surprise, his sister. Gabriel hadn’t seen much of Corona in months now. Though there was no overexcited reaction, he moved to her side almost instantly, a single wag of his dark tail accompanied by a nudge with his nose. This was the Gabriel equivalent to throwing himself at her, though he settled onto his haunches not long after. An older man joined the group, and Gabriel recognized suddenly just how many of his clan were now reaching the twilight of their years.
He did not speak, but remained next to Corona, looking to his mother for an explanation.
