For Shaw! Big Grin WC: 518

Kesho Maisha

Since he had last wandered these lands, Kesho had learned much about life and its balance. Keeping to himself he had become somewhat more hardened, and substantially more mature. Last he had trod the borders of any territory, he did it with some sort of childish instinct and wonder. Still, he retained these qualities, but they were much subdued, and quite hidden, except in the right circumstance. Sometimes, he offered play towards another, or even alone, but it was a rare occurrence. Today, he had a spring in his step. He was quite lighthearted these past few days, and that feeling continued as he briskly patrolled the lands. It wasn't that he was searching for anything in particular, no, he was just becoming reacquainted with the territory. It had changed quite a lot, but still retained the qualities that he loved. Presently he was prowling through a quite sunny area, on this clear and beautifully chilly day. The grass was dying, mostly, but some hints of the lush green still remained; others lay covered in bits of frost from the morning's dew.

The bronzed 'yote noticed a small group of four or five white rabbits nearby, minding their own business and chomping on some of the weeds which managed to survive the frost. He lowered his body behind a nearby outcropping of rocks, staring at the grazing rodents intently. Slight pangs of hunger echoed in his bowels, but it wasn't that which drove him. It had been a while since he'd had the freedom to hunt on such an expanse of land. As a loner he'd needed to take care that he wasn't stepping on the toes of any nearby packs, be them coyote or wolf. Rabbit wasn't his favorite meat, but it would do for a lovely morning snack.

Kesho padded lightly around the boulder, nearing the busy bunnies, attempting not to make a sound. Crouching as low as he could, he neared them slowly, getting ever closer. When he was right upon the small group, still mostly hidden by the slate that he anchored himself to, he pounced. The group scattered in fear, each having narrowly escaped his grasp. Pinned beneath his large paws, however, was one who had been just barely too slow. He grinned maliciously down at the plump rabbit, exerting continued pressure as it wriggled and squirmed in his grasp. With one quick motion, he had latched onto the creature's head, teeth sharp and deadly as ever, separating the muscles and sinew, ripping apart its neck. He chewed noisily, crunching each bone with pleasure. Quickly he devoured the rest of the rabbit, leaving a few larger bones to perhaps chew on later. His visage now covered in crimson, he looked quite malignant. Retiring himself to a nearby boulder he lay down in repose, absently working on cleaning the blood from his limbs and face. Yes, Kesho... excellent. Kill for me. You know how good it feels..., screamed a voice inwardly. Kesho considered this momentarily, but soon returned to his self-grooming. Killing rabbits was not quite worth the trouble; it was far too easy.
