Large paws left light depressions in the soft ground. Clouds filled the sky, lending a dreary look to the landscape. Still, there were several rabbits sniffing at the grasses, their small, beady eyes unaware of the predator that lurked in the shadows.
Amos might have been old, but when it came to hunting, he knew what he was doing. Prey didn't stand a chance against the graying coyote when he was in his powerful Secui form. Flawlessly, he inched through the thin grasses, his striking violet eyes fixed on a large beige rabbit. Dinner. Muscles flexed, his toes pressed into the damp ground, and heavy lips peeled up to reveal his yellowing canines.
Then he launched forward. His dash was smooth, perfected through years of practice. The rabbit noticed him much too late. The other scattered, sliding into their safe holes. The beige rabbit he'd targeted turned and ran, but it was useless. Amos was there, on top of it.
The rabbit's life was taken quickly. Sitting down next to the body, Amos stretched. It had been a good hunt, easy and productive. Tonight, he and Cassius would have rabbit stew!
