It was unusual for the silver-shaded female to be up in this part of the territory, especially lately. Her creaking bones and stiff limbs did not generally agree with the sharpness of these inclines, and she did not honestly trust herself on the rockier, more dangerous peaks of the mountain. The past few weeks had the scarred woman feeling more lively than she had in some time, however—even with the onset of colder weather, she was feeling stronger and less of the old-age ache she had grown accustomed to. This was, of course, in large part, thanks to Clover. It had not occurred to the silver-shaded woman that she could feel even better, should she try different medicinal tactics. Had she not been too proud to ask for help, she might have sought Corona out sooner.

It was not her own health that weighed on the silvery hybrid's mind as she loosely trailed the scent of her daughter, however. It had been some months since they had last spoken in depth, and the coyote wanted to find out how Corona was doing. Holed up by her own problems, the scarred coyote was attempting to make up for the lost time, stolen time. She did not think her achiness would have been quite so bad as it was were it not for her recent encounters with Haku. He had taken quite a lot from her, but now the scarred woman slept soundly with his bones just nearby. Its presence should have bothered her, but instead the jawbone was a visceral reminder of his absence in the living world, and so it was a comfort.

The scarred coyote found her tawny daughter crouched at the base of a tree, pawing through the grass there. Kaena approached noisily, not wishing to startle Corona. “What are you looking for?” the woman inquired, genuinely curious as to what could be so precious here.
