Crappy opening ahoy!

Feet scrambling for purchase, Seyonne scurried up a tree with less than perfect grace. He wasn't used to these trees. The bark was smoother, harder to really dig into without harming the tree in the process. Once he got up to a fork in the tree he leaned out and looked at where he just climbed. Claw marks everywhere, obvious trail for someone who used to climb trees as a spy. He sighed and turned back to the limbs above. Where to go? Up? Out? To the next tree over? He looked to the nearest tree a good five or so feet away. It wasn't far really. He climbed up and out, getting nearer the other tree. With a small wiggle of his butt, he jumped and crashed through a couple smaller twigs to a sturdy branch in the neighboring tree. He landed with some grace, only a single back foot slipping slightly. He watched as several leaves floated down to the ground and joined others already there. Surely he didn't knock all those loose? He shook his head as he answered his own question. No, the season was changing. Soon food would
be come hard to come by, and he still didn't know the lay of this new land.

He stood quietly perched in his tree for a few moments, deep in thought. Perhaps going so far from his old home just before winter was a bad idea. Perhaps he shouldn't have been so eager to put his way of life on the line. Perhaps he should have been more patient and not ruined his risky endeavor. Perhaps, eventually, he could stop living in the past and get on with his life. The past was unchangeable and there was no point in dwelling on it. He knew this, but couldn't help thinking about how things could have gone much, much better. A small bird, he wasn't sure of the species, landed just a few branches away from him. He spoke in its language, a small greeting and wish for company. The bird, surprised to find a fox it could understand, immediately started jabbering away - though always at a safe distance. Another bird perched beside the first and entered the conversation about the duo's favorite worm hunting ground. Seyonne, a small smile on his muzzle, listened and nodded at the appropriate times. He was glad that he had taken the time to learn the lesser language of the birds. They were interesting - a lot more so than other animals most of the time. He thought about how he must seem to others, randomly perched in a tree and talking to birds, and found he could care less. He didn't judge others for whatever they did in their free time, and didn't want others judging him. It didn't mean he would do boring, normal things though.
