As his weight pulled Shawchert to the ground, Oak fell too, emitting a soft Ouf, crumbling awkwardly to his belly. For a moment he was disoriented by the flurry of movement, but he came to his senses quickly and rose to his feet. He shook himself, looking Shaw's way to see the final result of his attack. To his surprise, the red-furred brute lay still upon the frosty grass. His cerulean eyes widened as he gazed in shock at the unmoving figure.
Shawchert? he whispered in concern. He hadn't meant to hurt his new friend, but perhaps he had allowed himself to get too caught up in the excitement of the chase. A sick feeling came over him as he went up to the wolf's face, and he chewed his lips. Shaw? he repeated. The boy lifted a paw and gently prodded the man's cheek, his ears lowering in an expression of genuine worry.
