Anyone welcome. Ever isn’t much of a trespasser, but she doesn’t know Smile

The morning was so cold that Ever’s breath turned to clouds from her mouth. She had pulled a dark sweater over her head that had hung on a hook in the back of the stables and groomed the horses in the pale sunlight of the sunrise. Heath had already fed the lot earlier so Ever decided to take Saphraine out. The stallion and the wolf hadn’t spent much time together since the girl and Ezra had been discovered by Vigilante. They had been together so much that the girl had ignored her duties. But today was about her Haflinger.

Ever stared at her reflection in one of the scarce puddles that dotted the ground. The hills were covered in mist that made them dangerous to ride into. Black hand stroked the wild equine’s soft white mane as the youth contemplated where to travel. Her stomach twisted at the thought of being high upon her stallion again. Saphraine still had the luscious flame of a wild spirit which Ever chose to remain lit. But a small voice in her head reminded her that he would be leaving soon. The stallion was more than a companion, he was a best friend and a guardian but when winter set in too strong he would leave his Luperci to go into Cour des Miracles hills where he sheltered out of the cold. There was only a small chance that he would decide not to leave.

A shudder escaped the girl, her breath clouding the air again before dissolving into the atmosphere. She gripped the Haflingers mane a little harder with both hands before hoisting herself upon his flank and up onto his back. The stallion let out a sigh of contentment and gave a small excitable buck. He shivered against her touch, like electricity was sparking underneath his skin. Her bare heels tapped his barrel lightly and he took off in a gentle splash, hooves skimmed another puddle.

They rode as one in a straight line across the rolling plains of Miracles territory. Ever wasn’t sure how far they had gone, until the familiar oaks and willows of her home merged into small shallow clusters of forests and lush meadows. She had not traveled in this area much, but she urged her companion on and he thundered past the forests with an affectionate nicker. The thin gray line of the coast was coming up fast.
