It was time, and no one was as frightened as Conor right now. He did his best to cover this up and let the mask of calm obscure the emotions that wanted to flood onto his face, but knew that Bris could see through with ease. How was it that he had such a difficult time without actually doing anything? Perhaps that was what was so excruciating; there was nothing he could do for the woman. There were certain medicines designed to ease pain, but he would not risk anything to hurt the children or the female in the process. The birth would take its toll on all parts and he refused to do anything that could jeopardize anything the slightest. He had attempted to boil up some tea to help the Stormbringer woman relax some, but was not sure if she had been able to get anything down. He wished he had made himself a cup as well.

A soft smile was brought to his lips as the pale lady commented on his act. Was it really that obvious? Probably, but he couldn’t help it. As the woman’s pain cut her off, his hand stroke her hair, soft as silk. ”You’re doing great—“ He knew in theory what this was, though he had never witnessed a birth before. Instead of focusing on tasks of the healer, he found himself draw back slightly instead. It was happening, right now! His heart rate beat through the roof and gave everything an unrealistic sheen. Bris seemed to know what she was doing though, and he gave her space to do what she pleased.

And then, a sound.

Lilac dared to search for the source of the soft, helpless sound. The Soul male felt out of breath as he gazed down on the little creature wrapped in cloth against its mother’s chest. Ears perked forward in wonder, for the little soul was so small. Only barely did he register Bris’ words. It was a girl and it was theirs. Breath seemed caught in his throat, and he wasn’t sure if he would be able to answer her at first. Shifting slightly so that he could get closer to the two, his eyes were glued to the little mewling thing. His daughter. He had a daughter! Something grew inside his chest; something much too large for his heart to hold alone. ”Eclipse Soulstorm.” He wanted to reach out for it, but the small thing seemed so fragile.

Conor could have remained speechless and lost in his little bubble of joy for several more moments, but now the girl was given to him and he wrapped the puppy and the blanket in his arms, terrified of losing her. Lavender managed to move from the first Soulstorm to see another child be brought into this world, though there was no breath of life. Again, the healer in the male should have leaped forth then to see if it could be saved, but he knew that there was no hope. There was no life to save. The tears flooding his beloved’s face were no longer those of joy. Conor’s eyes remained dry, but he felt it too. The loss.

Carefully wrapping an arm around the Stormbringer’s slender frame, he hugged her gently. ”There was nothing you could do. It’s not your fault.” Sometimes these things happened, and though he could feel his happiness shatter, he knew that they had another daughter, alive and squirming in his arms. Bris had done enough for now. Very carefully, the man handed the living child over to its mother before gently wrapping a blanket around the stillborn’s cooling form. They would grieve for this child, but right now it was important for her to acknowledge the survivor.
