Two years, and the fire grows - birthday feast

Do what you please, everyone<3

The Chief watched, mesmerized, as the girls danced and flames moved around them in patterns. They were truly daring, for several reasons. Small children of the Great Fire swung from their dancing tools and often flew close to their very singable fur, risking a burn with every movement. Not only did they agree, and on a whim, to his idea for a birthday celebration performance, but they embraced it so enthusiastically, and did not seem nervous when they stepped forward, one after the other, to do their part. Dawali was glad to see the facination and curiosity in the eyes of those who watched with him, but had little energy to spare them as he kept on drumming and chanting his old song. Hands moved like they had many times before, but Dawali wasn't merely playing as a background to their dance. He played with them, and their dance and his rhythms intertwined and reacted to each other in unpredictable and unrehearsed ways. Together, it created a powerful image of what AniWaya was all about.

They had both finished, and Dawali's voice had died to a still. He sat there, and they stood there, in a moment's dramatic silence, before he put his drum aside and rose. First, he applauded the girls silently, turning dramatically towards them; it was they who had completed the dance, though he had participated. It would have been nothing without them. He didn't plan on using any big words, but it was hard not to when he was so immensely moved by the strength and beauty of what his tribe could create. "It's our second birthday tonight!" He very nearly yelled, though some of the tribesmembers stood quite close. There was only silence and the cracks of the Great Fire, but somehow the situation called for the use of a loud voice. "This is our celebration." He turned and stepped aside to allow everyone to pass him and access the pile of foods that waited. As usual, there was a lot, but this day there was also more tobacco, pipes ready for use for those who wanted, and foods traded from other packs for the occasion. There was a diversity which he doubted many had seen before; so many different foods at once. Smiling, the Chief helped himself to a piece of river fish (his favourite), and calmly walked over to the two dancers. They did deserve a congratulation for their performance.
