I wanted to reply to this thread so badly. Now I can! Yippee! Big Grin (368)

Since his mother's departure, Claudius had spent a great deal of time in the den trying to figure out what to do. He had eventually forced himself to venture out to hunt for food, but had only been able to catch a small rodent. He had gobbled it down whole and had tried to hunt for many days later, but had been too exhausted to try anything else. So, when he heard Dawali's call, he had decided to venture forth in anticipation that his call would be accompanied with food. His attempt to catch a marten had not ended well and the creature had chased him all the way back to his den, but a week ago, he'd managed to catch a hare. He knew he could go at least two weeks without food, but if wanted to make it through this winter, he'd have to do something. He wanted to hunt, but the only members of AniWaya he knew were his mother and Dawali, and he didn't want to bother the Chief with such an embarrassing request.

He arrived late to the ceremony, but was in time to see some unknown tribe members dancing in tune to the Chief's drum. Claudius lingered in the back, mesmerized with their swift and precise movements, jealousy rustling angrily in his heart. He wished he could do something like that, but he had neither the grace nor the motivation. Claudius jumped when Dawali spoke, his booming voice echoed on the pavement and on the trees. However, when the Chief's words sunk in, Claudius' eyes brightened and he felt himself grinning in relief. Food! He was giddy with excitement, but forced himself to wait until the other members had all taken their share before approaching it. He felt ashamed to have arrived so late — with the sole purpose of eating — but he was so very hungry! He took what he could and slinked back to his hiding place and began to chew on his food, grumbling in appreciation. He could hear voices now of other members as they conversed and spoke. For the first time since his mother had given him the bad news — and since she had left — he felt content.
