Two years, and the fire grows - birthday feast

The tribesmembers mingled, and this time - for once - Dawali did not position himself in the corner somewhere to accompany them with tunes of his flute. A river fish in hand, he moved from individual to individual, wanting to meet and make sure he spoke with everyone present during this important celebration. So far they had survived two winters, and were in the ending of another; he had no doubts they would make it, for the weather had been stable so far, and they had plenty of stored food in the Town Hall. His tribesmembers appeared content - even Claudius, who Dawali imagined would be having a tough time these days. Lord knew that the misery Tayui had lived through would have affected the young male as well, and now that both Honoré and Aurelé had gone from the pack, he was pretty much the only one left. Still, the fact that his face seemed to be quite worry-free for a moment only told Dawali that the celebration was a success, and worked as intended; as a happy distraction from the tormenting waiting that winter provided.

As the sky turned darker and darker and stars appeared to increasingly laugh and smile at the wolves, Dawali continued to talk to everyone present. It was important, sometimes, to reinforce the bonds that were there, and to make sure the ones that were not were created. When the time came to pack up the rest of the food and return home, the old male was incredibly weary, but satisfied. It seemed like all their gatherings lately were successes.
