BFFS 4EVER

It was not late for him, but the winter gave a false sense of time to the Aquila. He slept longer than he did during the summer, and did his best to avoid being out too long. Like it or not, he was getting older. The old wound on his shoulder began aching and made it uncomfortable for him to travel for long distances. Visiting Crimson Dreams was now almost entirely out of the question, though he often thought of Anu and her children. The boys were not considered to be his anymore. They belonged to their mother alone. What she did with them was ultimately her choice alone.

He thought of Alaine often as well, and his other children. Talitha’s presence had been too short lived. He did not know where Ezekiel was. He worried for them, but he could not brood on such a thing. So he slept when he could, patrolled otherwise, and hunted between these periods. Now, as he left one such kill (a small goat, ultimately tougher than he had expected), the Aquila thought of nothing much. He traveled without seeing his path, listening for the lack of trespassers.

It took him a bit of time before he came across another figure, this one as recognizable to him as his own mother. Gabriel approached from behind, ears fanning forward as the coyote coughed. He frowned. “Hybrid,” he called out, voice sharp. “How long have you been doing that?” If that woman had spread her disease, he would need to tell Enkiel.
