Gabriel’s own youth was broken up by the terrors of crooked-toothed wolves and war. He did not know what it was to live without discipline. Likewise, though, he did not know how to raise children. His own had been sent away, raised by others. First and foremost Inferni had needed a leader without distractions. So while he gave exceptions for youth, at a certain point he demanded discipline. This was how he worked. Those that responded to such means flourished, others failed.

“I’ll come with you,” he said. It was not an offer, though if Hybrid had told him to leave the Aquila likely would. Accompanying his night-patrol was not something that he needed to do. Yet it would let him see if Hybrid was sick, despite the fact that the coyote claimed he was not.
