It was difficult to register the expression on the boy's face. For a moment, an emotion that may have been shock (or may have been distortion) was evident; his body language, at least revealed her appearance to be as unexpected as his was. The face in the glass jerked momentarily out of view, as though puppet string had been pulled sharply back. The little square window looked depressed, devoid of movement. But he reappeared just as suddenly and moved right up against the glass, and even as China reeled back she could make out distinctly the two glowing pinpoints of his eyes. Even through the murky shield, they were brilliantly hued. Red and violet? What a peculiar mixture. A strange feeling settled in the pit of the girl's stomach as her tentative greeting hovered, a weapon of impending doom, in the bitter coldsnap air.

There was some response - A snarl? A smile? - before the youth's blond back was turned to her. For a moment, China stood alone by the window, an expression of startled dismay etched into prettily refined features. The still-burning joint in her fingers dropped to the ground. She made no move to pick it up, instead peering closer through the glass portal. "Hey! Hey, you!" A miffed frown fell over slanted eyes, her hands lifting to rest against sweetly curved hips. Long ears flattened slightly to crown of short-cropped grey. With a sniff, the sylph-like maiden trailed down the side of the house, muttering in bewilderment. "Well, I neve- AHHH!" She had turned the corner, only to find that same pair of eyes staring plaintively at her.

Because her heart was racing uncomfortably fast (boomBOOM, boomBOOM, boomBOOM!) she took a moment, clear eggshell blue eyes daring to stare right back at amethyst-rimmed ruby. The cool breeze blew, teasing icy fingers through her short hair, trailing frosted feet up and down her curved spine.

She took a moment, once her pulse had resumed a more normal staccato beat, to observe the boy. He was very handsome, what with that most rare and desirable pale gold pelt. Younger than her, though; very young, to be alone on a mountain side. Not that she could talk. All at once, she wanted to touch him, and to run away. Run, run, run away. What silliness. You had one scare, and are now afraid of a boy? A stubborn streak prevailed. She would show the world that trust and peace did not always end in pain.

"Hello," She said again, softer now because there was no barrier separating them, and he seemed like the flighty type. There was something enticing about him, something oddly familiar, but she would never recall it. Perhaps she had known him in another life? Perhaps the Earthmother had shared her love with him, also? Maybe, even, they had been made of the same soil, the same clay? A smile curved about her maw, non-threatening, but she stayed where she was, unwilling to be the first to break the distance between them. "I didn't mean to startle you." But she had, and for that, she was honestly sorry. She would rather not have him know that he had startled her, too, but that much was obvious.
