But what did she do next?

beep! sorry for the delay!

Element smiled as the younger canine gave a small word of astonishment at the short description of the feline race that the black cat had just given him. He himself had been impressed when he had first learned those words - they seemed very different, almost alien, in the way they seemed to exude intelligence and general interest. It was like it was another world, but Element wasn't very interested in science - just that little bit about cats. He was content with just being in the world, but didn't know much about how it worked. He had yet to understand any of the words in the books that tried to explain it, at least. But he could imagine how it would amaze someone that is young and impressionable that there were indeed hidden knowledge and secrets that had yet to be explored.

He also smiled as he mentioned his eyes being different. "Thank you," he said earnestly. He had always taken being different as a compliment; he enjoyed being different from the crowd, standing out, being independent from anyone else. It was exciting and new and different, like exploring the world or traveling to Souls had been. Something never done before; and if it had, it was by the people who had dared to be different, instead of uniform and the same. No one wanted to be uniform and the same; but for some reason, so many were. Being different was like being a jewel; rare and precious, at least in this strange world. And no one was the same - each one had their own dark secrets, their desires, their pains and pleasures and things they may have been guilty about and did anyway. Secrets. And Element enjoyed being a cat in a canine world, simply because that was who he was, and that would never change.

"I haven't seen many others since being here," Element said in response to the pup's question of if there were more cats. "Perhaps they don't like being around canines; most of us steer clear of them, actually. Aside from me." Another thing Element was different from, it seemed. He was sure that most cats would stare at him quizzically and ask why he was conversing with dogs when he could be in the fine and sophisticated company of felines like himself. The answer? Well, he had found long ago that his canine companions weren't so different from cats after all.

"And we don't live in packs," he said. "Rather the opposite; felines are usually solitary creatures, except for some who have...lifelong companions." Element's voice lapsed for just an instant, his memory lingering on Flower. But he had made his peace with her death, and although she would no longer walk beside him, she would always have a place in his heart.
