It could almost be said that Ouija had taken up residence in the hunting lodge. Of course this wasn't exactly so. He still stayed within his underground cave but he had been spending more and more time in the lodge as of late. But then again he had to in order to keep the fire going and to watch over it. He needed that heat so that he could cure the hides that had been obtained. With the fire to keep the room warm he didn't have to worry about frozen water to slow down the progress. There had been mention of trading crafts that had been spoken about on occasions before. Because of this he was trying to ready what he could. He had some of all sizes, since he wasn't certain what would be wanted. Any animal he had found, as well as those from the group kill, had been skinned so that he could have something to continue to keep himself busy. The ones that were finished were placed in a small pile in the corner. Those mostly consisted of the moose that had been hunted down a bit ago. Then there were the smaller ones rabbits and ermines as well as the beavers that he had grown a taste for the flesh of.

He wasn't working on any of those at the moment. What he got was a chance find. A seal pup had gotten lost and separated during migration and he happened to have found it. Of course this became a new project for him. The pup had such wonderful fur that he figured that anyone would easily want it. It was so soft and thick. It really would make a wonderful gift for that special someone. So perhaps he should keep it for himself rather than putting it in the trade pile. Though there wasn't someone that he was currently looking to court. No, it would probably work better for a trade. That is unless someone in the pack came along and ended up wanting it. It was such a rare find. Or maybe not so rare. It was the first that he had seen though. But maybe if he actually sat at the coast and watched constantly then maybe he would see more now that he knew they were out there.

He had gotten fur stripped away from flesh already. He placed the pelt to the side in order to finish cleaning in a small bit of time. First he wanted to get started on turning the meat to jerky so that it would last longer. He cut the meet into long thin strips to place over a previously found rack to use in the fireplace in order to smoke the meat. He figured he would go ahead and get this done so that the meat would spoil. It also gave it time to start drying out while he continued to work on something else. It was just one more thing to keep busy with. After all he only wanted to clean up the underside of the pelt and scrape away any of the missed meat that he could, not that he tended to leave much behind anymore, and just leave it as smooth and clean as possible. He had to clear away as much flesh and blood as possible before it would have to spend days soaking. And since he had to remove the brains to soak the pelt in anyways it would just be easier to cut up the flesh while he was at it.

He took his time as he sliced up the meat. After all he had to make sure that the strips were thin enough to smoke but not too thin or else there would be nothing left to eat as they dried. Of course he started with long strips that were taken from down the entire length of the animal and then he cut them shorter so that there would be more strips. As well as it would prevent the meat from hanging directly into the fire. It was time consuming but he was enjoying himself. It kept his hands busy and that was the most important part of it all. He wasn't sure how it would taste but he was trying to make sure there was enough for the pack to share. Even if it meant cutting the jerky into smaller strips once it was all done.
