The Dreamer sat looking out at the rolling hills that separated one home from another. The male had found something here, something he hadn’t thought he would ever find. Comfort in solitude. It was odd, and yet excitingly curious at the same moment. He had always felt safer with company of others, especially his mother. But he was beginning to see that it was just as nice to be without company.

The masked male had changed into the form that had scared him for so long, practicing and getting used to his new legs, as he should have weeks ago. Perhaps he wouldn’t be so scared if he had, and the fear was diminishing with each step he took. It reminded him of the Cours male he had met the first time he had shifted, the roan mare who had helped him calm his nerves and clear his head. He missed them, but the coy-wolf had disappeared from the pack he had just visited. Gone for good? Alder hoped not.

He had even found a clear patch of ground beneath a thick pine. There were not many places that were without a thick coating of snow, but the boy was keen when he looked at trees, just as his mother was, and looked closely at the types that were scattered along the landscape.

Blue eyes looked upwards, the sound of moving branches and falling needles drawing his eyes to search for the creature that moved them. The sight of red brought the male to his paws, mind too preoccupied to notice that he moved quickly and easily on his legs. A smile came to his features, ducking his head from under the tree and backing up into the snow so that he could peer at the branches. The cardinal hopped from branch to branch, and Alder followed his movements with a practiced eye. His height made watching easy, for the boy was taller then most. A soft whistle came from the bird, and Alder mimicked it just as he had from pup-hood.
