Her hands gripped the ground, pulling up dirt. It was overwhelming. The smoke and ash was hurting her inside and out and her leg was throbbing. She was scared for her own safety, but most of all for Beppe's. What if he was back there still? What if she run off, thinking she was going the right thing by going after him and he was still back there? The thought made her shutter just as someone approached, her body jerking in response. His words barely registered and she squinted at him. "Know my son?" she choked out, almost blurting Italian but tried for her choppy English, even in time of panic. Trying to breathe, she came to stand. "Have to find!" she shouted and looked to the other canine, fear shaking her body. He said he would help her, though, and deciding it was best to put what trust she had in the boy, she shook her hands slightly and moved forward. "Us go," she mumbled and headed forward. Her body weak, everything harder than normal, but she had to get through this. She had to find him.
