Hybrid found himself smirking when Gabriel arrived, but tried to hide his smugness. He didn’t think he did this too well, since it felt so good to not be the only one who resented something – he wasn’t sure what yet – about his daughter. Hybrid guessed Gabriel was tired of everyone coming and going, but Hybrid was just fed up with all the movement in general. Coyotes should just stay where they belonged and mind their place in Inferni. He didn’t think Gabriel would have such a stark view of the lives they should lead within the clan, but Hybrid didn’t mind. Knowing Gabriel shared some of his sentiments made it easier to live with them.

Hybrid flicked his ears from Valkyrie to Gabriel once the Aquila spoke. Gabriel sounded like he had received her request well enough and punctuated it with an immediate acceptance. Hybrid recognized the importance of blood. Sometimes, he suspected the blood itself was more important than the individual who bore it. He supposed this was doubly true for Valkyrie. He didn’t know her, but he knew there was a bit of himself – and the de le Poer genes – in her.

Hybrid frowned when Gabriel switched his attention to Hybrid and his relationship with his daughter. What was there to discuss? She had left, she had returned, and Hybrid would resume his border patrols. There wasn’t much to discuss as far as Hybrid could tell, unless she had news of… well, nothing, really. There wasn’t anyone he’d care to know about that lived beyond the bounds of Inferni. Hybrid watched Gabriel depart with a sour expression on his face. He felt like he was being forced to hold some conversation of social pleasantries and niceties with a female he barely knew.

“Well,” Hybrid began. “I better get back to work.” He shrugged and then turned to trot away.
