I dunno what made me think of magician-based imagery. 300+ words.

The disappearing act. It was what she was best at, leaving and coming back at the strangest hours of the day. At the strangest seasons of the year. Even now, after two years, she couldn't stay there for long. Not when it made her think of such horrible things, not when it made her head hurt to stare out over the expanse of land claimed by the Inferni. The coyotes. Her coyotes. Her family. But every disappearing act had the conclusion, the time when the creature that was sent off in a puff of smoke reappeared in the center of the stage, possibly disoriented, but no worse for wear.

That was where she was, at her curtain call. Talitha had shed her four-legged form for the more comfortable bipedal one as she realized just how close she was to home; she stood tall, not necessarily proud, but tall. She was sure she'd be recognized, even if she didn't receive a warm welcome. Gabriel would give her one, in his own way, as she would him. No one else could ruin her reunion with her father, but that would come later.

For now, she had to find someone worth talking to. Her crimson eyes cast shadowed glances along the length of the border she stood before, studying the skulls painted and stacked in warning to intruders: Do not pass. Such an artistic display of attempted intimidation; she was sure she'd have thought twice about coming near had she not already known what sat before her. Family. Home. A silent swish from her flask, tucking it into a makeshift garter to hide it from whoever came to see her. There was no reason to flaunt her vices, not any more than others already knew.

She hesitated. Maybe it wasn't her time to come back. Perhaps the scared rabbit still needed more time in whatever hiding place she was disappeared to. But it was too late now; in the end of it, she knew it was too late. She was there, out in the open.

Another Lykoi for the mix, waiting for her warm embrace back into the fold.
