hurrr late. I meant to reply to this sooner but work got in the way. :{

The reason for Gabriel’s lack of response was a simple one—he had been outside of the borders when the sound had reached him. This was rare for him, but his anger towards the pack in the east had not faded. From what he had heard, Cotl had all but lost his mind since the boy’s death. Grieving occurred in many ways but the thought that the coy-dog would act out on his own worried Gabriel. For this reason he had made a point to go beyond the borders and look for any warning scents. Luckily, there had been none.

Kesho’s howl had caught Gabriel as he had begun to return, and the Aquila quickened his pace. By the time he had reached the location, though, all that remained were scents. The unfamiliar one was no stranger to him. Still, his daughter used Inferni like a revolving door; he worried, too, that this was due to her assault. Regardless, the fact she had returned was reason for joy. This was echoed by a softer grievance for his lost son, whose life had been dedicated to chasing his ghost of a sister. Perhaps with her return, he would once more appear. Gabriel certainly hoped so. It had been too long since the pair had been in their rightful home.

By the time Gabriel had tracked their scents to the caves, his mother’s voice had announced what he himself knew. Smiling faintly, the burly coy-wolf found the trio outside of the caves. He drew up unannounced and hung back behind Kesho, opting to let his daughter control the reunion.
