As the winter winds litter

Kiddo's comin'

Silvano took the feelings in his bones as a sign. A sign to sleep in. He had been up late that night, wasting a scavenged candle in the library as he read a book further, rather engrossed in it. It had been rather late by the time he looked up and noticed a candle half gone. At the time, the windows had rattled a bit now and then, and the boy figured it was going to snow in the morning. So, happily ignorant, he had gone up to his room to curl up on the mattress, under the covers. He slept well after the sun had risen and it was already falling below it's winter zenith when he heard his mother call out in the entry hall. It was surprising enough to him, that he had slept so late and that she was calling, that he had risen straight away to stare groggily at the wall.

He gave a yelp, though, the moment he saw - yes saw - the windows rattling as strong wind struck it. Silvano pulled the blanket out of his suddenly clenched fists, letting it drop around him as he got out of bed and put his hands on the windows. It fogged up and he could feel the cold beneath him. But it was not just the cold that bothered him. It had always been cold that winter. No, what bothered him was the way the wind had made his skin prickle uncomfortably. He was getting tense at the pressure in the air and it was making him very nervous. What was going on? He had no clue. Maybe that was what his mother had to say.

Absently running his fingers through his curly hair, the boy simply wrapped his scarf around his neck. It was what he wore by default, especially if he was going outside. But inside it could still be chilly so he kept it around. It seemed like he was the first to get downstairs. He swelled a little, in pride. Fresh out of bed and the first on the scene. "Mamma, what's going on? The windows are rattling somethin' awful," he asked, rather nervous at the sight of wood, hammer, and nail lying on the floor. Waiting for them to do something. Was it that bad? "What's happening?"
