The silver-shaded coyote remained standing, her single eye watching as the snow began to shift and crumble from the inside. She groaned, figuring it would all run downhill. As it was, she kept everything up as high as she could and away from the water. The caves were prone to floods, and it had gotten uncomfortably damp in here more than once. The old Centurion wouldn't risk ruining anything these days, not when she was too frightened of Halifax to head there by herself. It had been more than half a year since Haku died, and a year and a half since the library, and the old woman still would not venture there alone. She had been only once since, guarded by a caravan of three other coyotes under the pretense of war preparations.
Kaena tried not to think of these things anymore, though they inadvertently surfaced -- it was to be expected, after all. Time certainly faded some of the hurt, but it never did erase the memories, and she knew that from more years of experience than she cared to reflect upon. The coyote took a step backwards as a large section of the wall caved in, bringing with it a blast of cold and surprisingly fresh air. The state and sour taste of the cave faded almost immediately, and the Centurion inhaled sharply, peering at Kesho as soon as her eye adjusted to the sudden light with a grin on her face. “Good morning, Kesho. I'm fine,” the hybrid said, rather happy to have the company of her long-time friend. “Nice of you all to come and dig me out,” she said, still unaware of the severity of the situation. “Who else is out there? Couldn't figure it out with all that snow in the way,” the coyote added, her single eye looking to the bright space where Kesho had burst through the snow.
