Ethereal Eclipse. Smile WC: 434

Tal watched Liam playing in the snow out side of the den they stayed in for now. It was just a small cave, but there was a lake nearby, and rabbits and mice were foolish enough to wander out of their holes. He kept the pup fed. It made the male ache how much Liam looked like his mother in coloring. The boy's eyes were still the cloudy blue of puppies, but who knew when that would change honestly?

Tal was just starting to relax. Azza hadn't followed them. Neither had Kira, but she wouldn't, he knew. She might consider it, but he knew she wouldn't leave the pack, and the male she called her Dark Angel. He had thought she loved him, but obviously he'd been wrong. Kira didn't love anyone but herself, and the voices she heard. He'd known not to trust her, but he had. He'd trusted her to keep her first son away from the pups, away from the den. He hadn't been wise enough to take his own precautions against the black boy. Liadain had paid for his lapse. And Brighid had died on the way to safety. He held himself responsible for the deaths of his two daughters. But he knew he would protect the boy with his life, even here in Souls. He knew he'd find solace and safety here.

Well, maybe not solace, he amended silently. He was very guilty for the deaths of the girls, and for leaving without saying goodbye to his mother. But he knew he needed to protect his son. Liam was the driving force in his life. He'd do anything for the pup. He'd raise the boy right, with or without a mother.

He knew his own parents hadn't always made the best choices. He' never argue that with anyone when it came to them. He adored his mother, and loathed his father. But even he could admit both parents had flaws that he wouldn't ever duplicate. He'd never drink, he'd never fall prey to his body's lusts, and he certainly wouldn't ever do drugs. He wanted to set a positive example for Liam. He wouldn't let his parent's flaws fill his son. He smiled as the boy pounced on a crisp winter leaf.

He couldn't help himself; as the boy growled at the leaf, Tal snuck up on the pup. He paused for a moment, then jumped, landing over the boy. Liam looked up at his father, giggling. Tal was careful with the boy, but he himself felt playful. The two mock wrestled, their laughter echoing over the small lake.
