Those to Come

Nayru’s knowing eyes did not leave the girl, nor did she interrupt. Simply she listened and nodded as Eclipse explained she wasn’t allowed to touch glass. Who had imposed such a law upon the child? Conor or Bris? No one had told her not to touch glass. Had they, perhaps she would have seen the flawed logic in living in a house of glass. And yet, despite the injury that had occurred she did not wish her home to be anywhere else. There were some repairs to be made and problems to be addressed, sure, but her home was her home and she had no intention of leaving it. Nor did she tell Eclispe that the bandaged wrapped about her head had come from the very glass she lived in, for it would only frighten the girl and reaffirm that glass was not to be touched. But why not? Sure it could cut, but if handled with care the fragile material was quite useful. Quite beautiful even.

“Well if you’ve been most places than I’m not sure I could tell you of any place new.” Nayru smiled softly at the idea. As a child she truly had been most places, even places the adults never ventured. And like Eclipse she was constantly full of questions. Always thirst for new information, new adventures. Still she felt that thirst but she filled it without asking anyone these days. “Have you been to the harbor? The garbage dump? The butterfly field?” There were other places surely, but these three were perhaps the most fun to a child, or at least, Nayru remember them being the most fun when she had been a child.
