the truth we can't handle

Woo, I suck.

He was careful to step over the fallen titles, not wanting to damage them any further. It was true; many of the books had been lost to countless years of neglect. Yet Jenkai still held a respect for the ones that were now seemingly just trash. He paused as a row of books trailed out away from him, taking in unfamiliar smells. He wasn’t alone. Squinting into the dusty air, the seafoam green could make out a form just beyond him near one of the exits. He eyed them, wondering if they were one of the wolves that had come over the mountain. Jenkai had talked to a wolf named Hymn who had told him about the recent influx of canines. Somehow he had a feeling this wolf was related to that.

He turned and ventured down the row of books, protected by volumes tucked in shelves on either side. He peered through openings where novels had been extracted but never returned, now able to tell that the wolf was colored a deep brown and that he even had blue eyes. Still, he didn’t think Jenkai had been noticed just yet. He continued his way down the aisle, only to pause when a new feeling danced along his spine. There was someone else, he was sure of it. The scent was different. His stomach shifted. Could this one have ties to the clan Hymn spoke of?
