Am I too late?

Of all the questions that he had been asked by new members of the pack, this did not seem at all like a strange question until she explained herself. Normally such a question would make him assume she was interested in the job, but that was not the case here. It did not seem like an exceptionally odd request from her explanation, however nervous she seemed. He was glad to see that she did not seem to be as nervous as she had been when he and Noah had first found her—she had even looked him in the eye, if only for a very brief moment. The secui dog mutt watched her curiously, though his expression did not falter. The masked man was good at keeping his attention and his expression focused, and he found Faryn difficult to read, perhaps because of the nervousness. It was similar to the demeanor he had found in Alder, though more exaggerated.

“Her name is Alaine Winters,” he spoke, thoughts trailing to think of the collie woman he was fond of enough to consider her something close to a friend. “She has worked as the pack’s Apothecary for a very long time now, and she is very kind. She will be able to help you with anything that you require her assistance with, medically. She is a very able healer,” he added. The dark-saddled boy nodded enthusiastically, though he knew very little of Alaine’s medical abilities. He did not know much about such things, but he knew that Alaine was Odette’s mother, and he enjoyed playing with Odette.
