Shawchert had come back with nothing. He couldn’t find Orin or his girls, but he wasn’t going to give up hope yet, no, he still had a trail leading out, though it was well hidden... yet it was getting fainter. Why would someone do something like this? Why now when things were getting to be better? Shawchert grumbled and sighed as he moved to his usual spot on the porch. He had done a patrol run and was now looking for a little rest. He’d been up all night searching for signs that Orin was at least still alive. He pulled his flute up from its resting spot on his neck, and played. It was a sad tune, something he did not play often. He knew this was not going to make him forget his children or the stony face and glazed eyes of his son. who would do such a thing? The anger that filled up inside him made him mess up his song. A feat that did not happen often. Growling a little he tried again. It came out a little better but he was not feeling the song anymore.
Sighing Shawchert let go of the flute where it swung around on his neck. He sat back on his porch wordless. He was hurting so much on the inside that he didn’t know if he could live much longer. How could he when his son was dead and he was not there to protect him? He was the leader of the pack, and he had failed to do his duty. He was hating himself at that moment, knowing he had a reason why, but he tried to stay strong for the pack. He had others to protect. He would do what he could to keep his remaining pack members safe.
