He had seen Samael’s lean, ragged optime form when they’d first met, but he’d never directly seen the change before. Fear was invoked, and the coyote’s curiosity was piqued, quickly realized that he was, perhaps, simply an ordinary, primitive beast—what they’d all evolved from, but had advanced beyond. That, or he wasn’t aware of his own potential just yet, for whatever reason.

He crept back to the entrance of the den, hearing the fragment of prayer spoken aloud, echoing out from the depths of the recess. “There’s nothing to be frightened of. Have you never seen a change before?” he asked, peering on with blood-red eyes.
