there's no relief in bitterness

The male did not go out of his way to maintain any airs of approachability and the like; the Valley had always accepted him as he was, a quieter and more down-to-earth leader as compared to the members, and he was not at all accustomed — nor willing — to act any differently to suit the AniWayans. Getting out and meeting the majority of the tribe's members he found important, but with the troubles of the Valley and general maintenance for the allianced tribe he watched over, taking time to spend with members who would probably reject him sort of fell on the back burner. Jefferson found himself pleasantly surprised that the boy and girl had both approached him so willingly and with concern in their eyes — especially the trembling one with the stutter, who looked apt to faint at any given second out of sheer anxiety.

Sakari referenced an Edusti Tsugi once, twice, and still Jefferson stared at her, perplexed, without an answer. Who the hell was that? The only AniWayan leader was Dawali, else Jefferson wouldn't be lollygagging around the western tribe's creeks and brooks like a child. He managed to put two and two together, though he'd never heard Sakari speak to or of her uncle in such a way, and with a flick of the ear he replied. "Yeah, yeah, he's getting better," the brute snorted, shrugging both full shoulder and the stump that remained of the other. "He would've stepped down one way or another if he thought he was sick. The big guy just needs time."

That said, he recalled her offer to guide him, but before he could reply to it, the white male stammered through more muttered words. Why was he present there with them if he was so damn uncomfortable? The concept simply could not make itself understandable in the Patriarch's head, but that was mostly because he himself would never have done such a thing. As a result, Jefferson had become rather "skilled" in unwittingly dismissing himself from places he had absolutely no desire to be. "You," he said, flicking his nose at Claudius. Others might have approached the boy's timidity with a gentle nuance or the like. Jefferson did not. "Get a hold of yourself and stand up straight. You got nothing to be tweaking out about here, ... what's your name again?" It only occurred to him then that he did not know.

A quick, stiff glance back at Sakari. "Tour me if you want. I'm sure you people have some sort of duties to do here though, don't you?" A very slick way of enquiring what exactly AniWayans even did in the first place, of course. Jefferson did not take the time to bask in his own ingenuity.
