Derp, this is a crap post despite it's length! Lmao. I didn't know if Kaena was here, so I made it sort of ambiguous?

It pained Sage to see her uncle, her Aquila, in such pain. His wounds were fresh and raw, Sage noticed, and nearly winced in empathy as he moved. As she stood, waiting anxiously to hear his words, she could only wonder who had done this, why, and what would happen next. Everyone gathered quickly, and Sage sat staring about her, yellow eyes finding her sisters', filled with sadness.

What Gabriel announced was nothing she would have expected, though perhaps she should have. Grandmother was no longer going to lead. With a gasp, she acknowledged this, eyes roaming again to try to find Kaena amongst them. Who would go in her place? How would Inferni survive without their wise, grizzled leader? Why would grandmother have stepped down? Was she really so old and frail, now? Sage's brow furrowed in worry for her grandmother, one of the few here besides her sisters that she was close to. The young Lykoi girl surely hoped that Kaena was not in any serious pain or danger.

The Aquila next announced the answer to Sage's question. Halo would take Kaena's place. Sage's eyebrows raised slightly, yellow eyes sliding to the new Centurion with curiosity, a pleasant smile creeping across her face, nodding in respect and acknowledgment. Of course she'd been the first choice; cousin Halo had long been loyal to Inferni, and she carried that deadly strength that they so often seemed to need in a leader. She was a bit discouraged by the continuance of the pattern of violence in the leadership, but it was not her choice. Clearing her throat softly, the girl remained silent and still, atop the large breathing beast named Lennon, whom she'd nearly forgotten about in the rush of information.

Next, Gabriel detailed the destruction of the Occasus Promontorium, saying it had collapsed. That must have been what had caught him, and her jaw slackened in awe. She, too, had been injured there, and Gabriel knew it, stealing a stern glance to her. She managed a brief, small smile, more embarrassed than anything else, before she glanced away, feeling idiotic for having gone up there. But was it really so bad to have carried some hope? Still, they had clearly failed.

And so the Aquila chose to shift their borders away from that dangerous place; they moved west, now. That was smart, Sage thought. He mentioned, too, that they moved slightly away from those not-so-nice Anatheman neighbors. At the thought of that dark group of creatures, Sage tensed, remembering her meeting with Theodore. It had not gone badly, necessarily, but his energy and that of the land itself, even, had made her decidedly biased against the place. She would not be upset at this move, that was certain. And, it would mean more Inferni land that she could explore and made her own. More of the Mother Earth's creation that she might not yet have seen. Sage appreciated this news. Though most of their borders would remain the same, one would shift. The handsome son of the Aquila had been sent to mark this new border, and Sage was eager to explore it, shifting on top of her equine companion, itching to get moving.

Sage watched in silence as some of the clan members talked amongst themselves, wanting now to go and chatter with her sisters. She kept herself in this spot, though, not wanting to seem rude. Sun-colored eyes narrowed as a brutish looking man sidled up next to Gabriel, quietly speaking to him in what seemed to be a rushed and concerned manner. Who was he? Sage did not believe they had met, though he was clearly close to the Aquila. She dismissed it, eyes sweeping the crowd again, ignoring many of the voices which rose up into the silent air. She had few questions, and deemed them too unnecessary now to be voiced. Sage respected Gabriel, she respected his decisions. She only desired to speak to Kaena, to assure herself that grandmother was still alive and well, and that she had not retired out of necessity. The tan girl preferred to think that Kaena was simply tiring of that role, rather than getting too old for it.

After all had been said, Sage breathed a sigh of relief. Thankfully, Gabriel was the only one who suffered serious injury. Thank you, Earth Mother, for protecting him, she thought, glancing skywards. Sometimes, the Earth rebelled against itself and caused such monumental destruction. The girl did not claim to understand it; she only knew that it was a cycle that deserved respect. With these final thoughts, she heard their chattering voices become more and more silent as she rode slowly away, towards their new lands. She picked up speed once she was away from the clearing, feeling the cool air rushing through her tousled hair as she rode, hoping that the freedom would clear her worried mind. After she explored the space, she would find Kaena. The girl needed to know the reason, the truth. Her heart ached for her aging grandmother, and for her bruised and beaten Aquila.
