The mentor in him was pleased to see her take up the stance, and though it was not quite as perfectly still as his own had been, Sirius had to secretly commend her attentiveness to the method he had shown her. The coal-pelted Tuyul was very still on her lower stone, shifting only in slight movements to perfect her balance before continuing the waiting game.

It was surprising to him that she was able to maintain such focus, not because Eris was vague in any manner, but because he knew her to be a creature expectant of instant gratification. This was far more tolling on the patience than stalking a rabbit, when the scent and sight of the creature pulled such wonderful adrenaline and expectation into the blood. With fishing, there was just the stillness and the waiting. He scowled as her head jerked to follow the slight rippled of water which he assumed from this distance to be disturbed by a fin, but did not verbally apprehend the woman, not wishing to break her concentration.

When at last she struck, it was with a lot less grace and a lot more gusto than he had expected. Rather than simply spearing her head into the water as Sirius had done, the woman launched her entire body. For a moment, she was invisible in the spray of silver and teal, the cacophonous sound of hundred of water droplets returning to equilibrium in the main stream. Surprisingly, when her head appeared, it was the captor of a silvery fish. Far too unsuspecting to be irritated by her luck, the coffee male's canid brows rose in a bemusedly surprised expression. Perhaps I underestimated her?

But oh, the thought came too soon. One flop from the distressed fish was enough to have her formidable jaws release their potent hold. The prey fell back into the stream with a defiant PLOP! Sirius blinked blankly a moment, gazing at the eddying fish, then back to his aunt in silence. Maw gaped slightly, although of yet, chiding had yet to come.

The fish flopped hopelessly to the stone he sat on. Although he believed fish to be creatures that felt nothing, too stupid for pain, the dishevelled male felt a pull of sympathy for the pathetic thing. He dipped his head to snag its tail, and with a neat twist, smashed the glassy-eyed head against the stone to still it. He released it on the stone at his paws - a sizable find. Perhaps lady luck favoured the stupid. "Did you really... Did you really just catch this fish and then let it go?" Warming to his sarcastic flippancy, the male's bewildered expression quickly turned to one of clear distaste for her idiocy. "It is a fish, Eris. What did you think it was going to do, wet you? Oh no!" His tenor tone lifted churlishly to a female imitation, while apple eyes pointedly took in her position belly-deep in the cold water.

He had been surprised when she requested he teach her how to hunt. Larkspur would probably have had more patience with her, and the ocher male could only assume that her inability embarrassed her. Regardless, such foolishness was wasteful and needed to be weeded out immediately. If he had not been near to pluck the fish up, the hungry babbling waters would have been quick to snatch it away from her and downstream, into deeper currents, and the meal would have been lost. In a survival situation, the expending of so much energy on a miss that could so easily have resulted in injury was sheer recklessness.

Regardless, she was a learner yet, and he did not wish to ostracise her by being overly cruel. Although the dark-furred woman had a barbed tongue of her own, he knew his snide comments sometimes had the ability to get to her, and it was important that she learn rather than shun the skills he offered. "Well, at least you caught it," The male offered darkly, recalling his own previous failure. "Get back up on the rock and try once more, without falling in, and then I'll show you what to do with them once you've got them on dry land."
