His chiding provoked a defensive retort from the charcoal-furred woman, but that was preferable to the sullen silence he sometimes received. It showed that she was not going to sulk over the failure, as sometimes after a hard day she might. That was just another reason Sirius chose to teach her so early in the morning - It meant that he often got the best of her, attentionwise and emotionwise, before the other bumbling fools she called a family interfered with his pupil. After a day spent caring for the children and dealing with awkward sentiments in the grotesque parody of romance that she shared with Larkspur, Eris was definitely more prone to sulking through his barbed words.

Thankfully, she was motivated enough by his rantings to attempt a second go, this time proving successful. Once again, he was somewhat amazed at her ability to fish; There was little doubt in Sirius' mind that if she practiced this particular skill, she would be quick to exceed him in it. The male's long legs made him an agility and endurance hunter, bringing down fast light weight like rabbits and fawns. Her heavier build made her perfect for this sort of sharp reaction requiring attack, as well as pack hunting of larger prey, although he doubted that would be a skill she ever got to learn in the mountain range Anathema inhabited. Pack hunts were practically non-existent here.

She seemed proud of herself, quickly executing the salmon with a weighted paw. Forcing himself to look unimpressed, so as not to feed an ego that could easily become as bloated as her puffed-out pelt made the woman appear, the male picked up the fish she had caught prior in his maw and leaped agilely across the smoothed stones to the shallows, splashing up onto the bank with an expression of mild annoyance at having wet paws. He dropped the fish and changed forms swiftly - It seemed the male had the ability to do everything swiftly, if not half-heartedly. With his new lengthened limbs, he picked the good-sized fish up in a lighter palm and returned apple eyes to Eris. "You can eat fish raw - won't kill you, but isn't particularly tasty with the scales on," he said in a mild tone, taking a small bite from the back of the fish to prove his point. The meat was slick and slimy, and it slid uncomfortably down his throat but sat well in his stomach. "Nor is it as filling as hare-meat or deer, but it will sustain you well enough, if need be," He had lived almostt entirely off of the stuff caught in the ports of Freetown, and was well used to the unsavoury taste of it.

Wanting Eris to do as he did, he waited for her to take a bite of the meat, almost certain that she would show some churlish disgust for it. He would show her how to scale and gut it once she had done so, but it was important that the woman leave behind all aspirations of glorified eating that she had been privileged to have in Eterne.
