It would have been good for her to have known Sirius before her trek northward. Any skills she might have picked up in Eterne would have helped her, and then she wouldn't have had to rely on Itzcitla to hunt for the both of them. Those had been thin times for the sable-shaded woman herself and her feline companion, who had certainly also felt the sting of near-starvation. They had been lucky, happening upon a kill still fresh enough to scavenge from more than once. Eris did not know she could have eaten half-rotten meat with virtually no ill effect to her; even if she had, it was questionable whether she would have stooped to such a level in the first place, as she seemed to have so much difficulty with something as simple as raw fish.

She drew her claws along the fish, watching as the transparent scales separated from the flesh in a great cluster, reminding her of a dead dandelion being blown apart, but with far more color. Opalescent fire danced off of the tiny scales, shimmering and flickering as they caught the sunlight. The coal-hued woman grew quiet and absorbed in her task, the hand that wasn't working at the scales clutching the fish protectively by the tail. She certainly wasn't going to allow a dead fish to escape -- it had been embarrassing enough to have a live one get away from her, and she did not think Sirius would ever let her live it down if she lost prey that was already dead. The fins were sliced off neatly by those same sharp claws, her chartreuse gaze stealing glances at Sirius's fish to see just how she was supposed to do so.

The sound of throat-clearing caused her to look up at him, and she watched in mild fascination as his fingers dug into the underside of the creature, tearing from it miniature versions of organs she recognized. This was even more interesting to her than the fact that fish bled red blood -- that they would have the very same organs she was used to peering at was beyond thinking, and she laughed aloud as she tore into hers, drawing the dangling and wet guts up out of her fish's corpse. She held them up in her fingers, peering at them curiously, and then threw them on the ground between Sirius and herself, leaning forward and waving a hand over them in a mockery of her own rituals.

“They say you're doomed -- for the rest of your life, you gotta teach a pretty relative silly shit she should've learned years ago,” the hybrid said with a grin, prodding a finger into the fish guts and pushing them into the water. They scraped and bumped along in the shallows for a moment, and then were whisked away downstream. The grin did not fade from her face, but she wasn't all silliness, either; she'd done as he asked. She simply couldn't help herself from having a bit of fun, and it was at her own expense, anyway. Fish seemed to be incredibly stupid creatures, and the coal-hued woman did not honestly think their innards would provide her with any fascinating insights.
