He had been awake at the break of dawn, sitting in the grotesque maw of one of the Anathema caves. It had seemed almost ritualistic the way he had sat there, light slowly breathing life into the world beyond as he remained cloaked in the darkness.

On a regular morning, he would have met Eris an hour previous, and together they would have venture on some expedition of learning and mentoring. Thankfully, she had allowed him a few days respite from these teachings. Sirius could claim this dawn as his, and his alone.

He set off with the intent to hunt. It was a primal need to fill the hunger that settled in his hollow body - Sirius was used to having to hunt for himself, and it was an endeavor he quite enjoyed. Silence keeping comradery with the shadow at his heels, it was Sirius verse the world, and the taste of victory was sublime. As the sun broke in shattered rays over the mountain, he caught a mole, crunching on its bones and sating immediate hunger with the warmth of its blood. However, the mole was not a meal; it served only to fill his body with its rich energy, bringing his lanky form to a higher plane of life. The coywolf settled into a ground-eating lope, unchallenged by most. His lightweight frame allowed for impressive speed and endurance, key skills he would need when hunting his favourite prey, the mountain hare.

There was competition there. Both animals strove for survival, and the hare was a worthy opponent, with its big ears and long legs. Only the cunning hunter could snare the mountain hare, and Sirius was proud to declare himself a Pro at such huntings. His search for a scent took the youngish male beyond the borders of Anathema, but this was alright also, for it was rare to find anyone else haunting the mountain these days. Having found a scent, he tracked it dutifully. There was a brief, exhilarating sprint when at last the small critter was found - Bounding over logs and around boulders. When at last the steel trap of his jaws secured on his prey, the familiar burn was racing through his frame. Lungs heaving, the ocher male killed the animal with a quick shake of his head to snap its neck, cutting short the terrorized screams that had fallen on deaf ears. Once again, he was the winner.

Placing the limp bundle of fur before him on the ground, Sirius shifted. His body trembled and elongated, fingers sprouting from paws, spine shivering and crackling into a new position. Once bipedal, Sirius picked up the hare and slung it absently over one shoulder, shaking out the long dark locks of his unruly hair. Faint sound of rushing water alerted the handsome fellow to the nearness of a river, and he headed lazily towards it, wishing the skin the small animal for its pelt before eating it. However, Sirius was a picky and cleanly soul, and the thought of skinning without water nearby to wash the gore from his hands was unappealing.
