Nearly daily since their re-admittance into AniWaya, Desi and Hanna had gone to visit Ralla in her home in the big tree. Sometimes they had just sat and talked, sometimes only Hanna would see the white woman (Desi being a very busy young adult and not always around the territory), but often they would attend to some otherwise menial task that was difficult for Ralla to complete with her rounded baby belly.

Today was one such day. While Hanna sat on the provided cushion and talked animatedly with her friend, Desi clutched a broom and was sweeping the floor of what Ralla told her would one day be an observatory. The young lady was humming a quiet tune, and very nearly dancing to her own song. Her mind was wholly on Saluce, that handsome man she had had a liaison with from Dahlia de Mai.

The gasp of Ralla's first contraction was what alerted Desi to something being other than normal, and she set the broom aside to move back to the bedroom, in case her mother needed her assistance. Hanna had moved to kneel beside Ralla on the bed, the arm nearest Ralla wrapped loosely about her shoulders while the other was extended for the white lady to hold when the time came. The medic was speaking in hushed tones to the laboring mother, "Deep breaths with me, in... and out... and in... and out..." when the knock sounded at the door.

A white wolfess let herself in, asking if the pups were coming. She also queried Ralla on whether she had had any contractions yet as she layed supplies on a rag. Logic stood, then, that this was the Kunikoti who was recently come to the pack, prior to Hanna's rejoining. Moving to kneel next to Mizu, Desi took it upon herself to answer the woman. Her reason for doing so was two-fold: She had caught the brief look of upset that crossed Hanna's features (because even though Mizu had seniority by right of admission into the pack, Hanna out-experienced the Kunikoti by a long amount of time) and so that neither Hanna nor Ralla would have to break their breathing pattern. Yes, Ralla just began contractions. She's only had a couple though; you're just in time.
