Slade had been having a rather terrible day. Several days ago he had learned that Shawchert was gone, and even though he hadn't known the leader well the realization stung worse than thorns -- and he knew all too well how thorns felt. He had never really given it much thought, but Shawchert was almost like a father he had never had; they had only really encountered each other twice; once when Slade had joined the pack, the other when they had a short conversation at Shawchert's house... which happened to be in complete ruin. Suddenly he was thrown into a giant mess and he needed to do something to take his mind off it.
He had been reminded of this terrible fact every waking moment since discovering it, and when he suddenly heard a howl he seized the opportunity. He had been trying to sleep, but not because he was tired; only because he wanted his mind to shut up and stop wondering what kind of terrible things had made Shawchert get up and leave. Hearing a familiar voice summon him, he was all to happy to get up and run, run head-on away from Drama Pack. A smile crossed his face for the first time in days; he was running to Deirdre. After their last meeting, he was glad to know that she was the only canine who could take his mind off of the drama in a positive way.
The coyote found her at the border, where she seemed to be a bit anxious. Geez, he really hadn't taken that long, had he? Deirdre didn't strike him as the impatient type.
His tail started wagging nonetheless when he saw her. "Hey, Deirdre!" he greeted happily, hoping to lighten the mood for her and himself; there was no way he was going to let her see that he was feeling rather conflicted about his pack at the moment, especially if she was worried about something as well. "Didn't expect you to stop by; what brings you here?"
