All right, maybe another round or two and we can just fade to black in this thread?
Slade thought that, when someone admitted that they had come to a sudden realization, they would tell the curious coyote who had asked them about it in the first place, but he wasn't about to pressure Deirdre into talking. If there was something personal going on, that was fine with him, and he didn't need to know about it. Still, this was the strangest time to come to a thought....
There was an unfortunate silence that followed. Slade let out a small sigh. He was used to this type of awkward moment, when neither canine could come up with something decent to say. That was partly his fault, for being such a terrible conversationalist, but it wasn't in his nature to try to fix this problem and instead was used to having at least one awkward moment during a conversation.
Deirdre's question didn't help much. It was about as surprising as her sudden enlightenment, and the brindled coyote didn't answer right away. The simple reply was "No", but it didn't make the question any less... out of nowhere. He had never given much thought about his love life; he was simply a wandering coyote who had trouble making friends and had never really fallen in love. That was the extent of his thoughts on romance, and suddenly this wolf was throwing a question into his face that was simple and yet hard to answer because of all the thoughts it threw into his head.
"Ahh, no," he replied after some hesitation. "No, I don't. Why'd you ask?" The notion that Deirdre was the slightest bit attracted to him was alien. Slade just wasn't the type of canine to pick up on that sort of thing, and if he had been told outright he wasn't sure how he would react. Again, it was a topic he had never bothered to give much thought, which was also the reason why he didn't return the question. Did Deirdre's own romantic life really matter to him?
