He left his son in the relative safety of the packlands. He wanted to venture further abroad, to look for new places. He'd spent a good portion of the day on the coast, the fishing was good. His mother had never liked fish, he recalled with a smile. She'd always said she'd eaten one too many during the drought and famine when she'd first joined Syemv. She never really talked about the wolves there much. Soran, and once she mentioned Rurik. She hadn't spent much time there, he didn't think.

He focused on his surroundings. He'd wandered around aimlessly for a while, but now he found himself in the cavernous lobby of an old hotel. He raised an eyebrow as he wandered through it, looking at the moldy paintings on the walls. A gift shop he found delighted him, and he opened the door, smiling at the chime of it. It was a sweet, pleasant sound. He studied the glass case. Somehow it had avoided the looting of all the other places. jewelry lined the shelf, mostly cheap sea shell trinkets, some colored glass. He liked the ones made with stone, and he went around the back side to look closer at one made of amethyst. A star carved from polished amethyst was hung off of a simple silver chain.

He smiled, thinking of the delight on his mother's face if she were here. But she wasn't. He wanted to put it back, but ended up wrapping it in a piece of tissue paper and putting it in his pack instead, a soft smile curving his lips. He wandered the store for a while, finding a book or two that caught his attention. Those joined the necklace in his pack. In the back of the store there were racks, filled with wine bottles. He lifted a bottle and thought for a while, then set it back in it's wooden cradle.
