He shook his head, as she expected, when asked if he had caught something to eat for himself and the faintest sense of guilt overcame the Horzana woman. As far as she knew, he hadn't eaten recently, and as hungry as she herself was she wouldn't let him starve because of her. Her face turned into a grumpy scowl and she held the rabbit out further while he spoke. Oh, he'd find something else, he claimed. He and Adrian could get a deer. The Latina snorted hot air through her nostrils. She was going to make him eat the rabbit if she had to stuff it down his throat herself. All he seemed to want to do was take her to see what he hoped would be their new home. Something about his features as he spoke caused her to look away; he was nervous, guilty? Weird that he would be that way, as she held no blame to him in regards to their situation. After all, it wasn't Mars' fault, just like it wasn't Bartholomew's. She hadn't been forced to deal with the monster who had fathered the pups she carried; it was for the best, since she would have had a much harder time staying with Mars had something worse happened.
Frustrated, she turned away from him, attempting to lean down in order to lift up her makeshift bag; it didn't end up happening, of course, and instead she grimaced and placed a white-tipped hand upon her distended stomach. Upon the realization that she simply couldn't bend over to grab the bag, something in the mind of the tan-and-white mutt came to realize reality. She was going to be a mother, and quite soon, and it all converged upon her quite quickly. A hand covered her eyes as a faint sniffle escaped into the air; why was she upset? There wasn't a reason to be upset, yet she had somehow become overwhelmed with sorrow. The rabbit was cast to the ground, freeing her other hand to hide the rest of her face.
