Yorick lay on the ground, panting -- his lips were drawn back into a snarl, and his emerald-hued eyes wide with terror and burning distrust. He watched as one melted from the bushes, her coat a tawny yellow coloration and her eyes a bloodied red color. His ears folded against his head promptly, and he attempted to tuck his injured leg closer to him, though the movement sent dizzying waves of pain radiating outward from the injury. Darijus still stood beside him, the oaf that he was, his big dumb face showing only confusion and dull fear. He was too stupid to be truly afraid, and Yorick wondered, faintly, how the ocean gods had been kind enough to spare this simpering whelp, while the earth gods had reared up to trip him. He hated Darijus in that moment.

The second wolf appeared, slight of size and smoke-colored in hues. Yorick's snarl did not fade, but Darijus laughed aloud, a bellowing and deep thing that seemed to resonate. His companion's ruddy face was pulled into a huge grin, and the midnight-hued Yorick looked on him with astonishment. “This is what they send after us? A child and a woman,” he said, grunting. “Fierce warriors, both of them!” Dari added, still cackling. The younger wolf hadn't the faintest idea of the gravity of their situation. Regardless of the strength of these two before them, the rest of the pack was sure to follow, and the darkly-shaded Yorick did not want to be here for their arrival. He would have given anything for Dari's working legs.

“What my friend means to say is, we're sorry for trespassing, please let us go,” Yorick said, though there was a coldness, near insincerity, to Yorick's voice. Too little, too late -- no matter what he said now, they were sure to kill him and Darijus both. There was no point in pleading for their freedom. He winced as another stab of pain wracked through his twisted limb, and watched in horror as the paler canine came forward to the injury. It was quickly replaced by confusion as the male delivered a gentle lick to his paw. Darijus, too, was confused -- the bigger male vocalized his confusion with a loud huh, though he didn't move toward either of their aggressors.
