The white mare breathed anxiously, eying her mistress's hand. She saw the cloth and whinnied at the pale woman holding it and a makeshift bridle. Sunki smiled at her beloved horse, who was older than her, but they were still close friends. As close friends as they could be. Sunki depended on the mare and the mare depended on her; they were connected. She drapped the cloth over the mare's white back, and gently eased her into the bitless bridle. The mare's ears flickered and she pawed the stable's ground in anticipation of a long ride. However, it was going to be a short one; Sunki had work to do. Leading the pretty mare, the equally pale woman took the path around the hut of her parent's and she heard voices. Her eldest brother's was what surprised him, and some female's voice. Before she could enter, Sunki mounted her horse in a flurry and rode past the fires.

Her brother was back, and Sunki did not have it in her to meet him just yet. She was stubborn as a mule whenever it came to decisions. Her last words to him had not been happy ones. Why would she be thrilled her brother, her eldest sibling, leave the Great Tribe to journey to the branch tribe? Donoma gave a soft whinny at her rider, feeling her frustration, her sadness. Then the two ran through the trees, dodging them the way only the mare could, her body lithe and agile. Sunki held on tight to her horse, whispering in her ear. But their run with the wind had to end soon enough, and the woman found herself having Donoma walk past neighbors and friends and their fires. Several looked at her and called out greetings, and she waved cheerily at them, betraying none of her unease. She had to face Nayati sooner or later.

Of course he found her first. Even as she leaped off her horse, she saw the familiar colors of her brother. Sunki patted Donoma's slightly sweaty neck, taking her by the bridle gently toward the stable. The loop of oiled rope was slipping out of her hands, palms sweating from the tightness of her grip. "Nayati," she said simply, giving him a weak smile. Oh, she was still not pleased. Donoma beside her exhaled loudly at the name, eying the man who had given her to her pale mistress.
