Coming Out

Fyre felt terribly weak and small living without a pack for so long. He had been constantly alert to finding one, but he always seemed scared to even try to bring attention to himself when he did. Finally, he decided he would stop being a coward and try to join one. He kept his head low and sniffed out for the pack border carefully; fearful of accidentally crossing into it. His small ears stayed pricked forward as he though of exactly how he would have a pack accept him. The only pack he had been in was a small family pack with most of the pups splitting up from the pack when they were grown. When he felt himself getting too close to the lands for comfort, he stopped and slightly raised his head. Ears flattening against his head, he howled a short, small howl, hoping someone heard him.

He sat down and sighed, ears still flat in worry. His feet kneaded the ground, but when he thought of what one might see should someone come, he stopped. His ears perked up slightly, he puffed out his chest and raised his head slightly higher. His lips broke into a strange, crooked smile as he tried to look brave, but calm. Deep, deep inside, he was genuinely happy to possibly join a pack. But also deep, yet not as deep as the first feeling, he was scared of what might happen, or even what pack life might be like.
