The second in command walked along the borders steadily. This was routine for the elder of the Dreaming pack, an instinct driven by her responsibility as a leader. Her gray lean form moved without haste, the path dug deep into the soft summer Earth. The days were long, the Sun not falling until her tire had sunk deep into her muscles and touched her bones. But the noon had hardly been reached as she patrolled the scent barrier the pack maintained.
Silver tipped ears turned at the sound, the call familiar and yet the voice foreign. It was a question, one she had heard many times while in the Crimson Dreams pack. Anu tipped her maw to the blue and white of the sky and returned the howl with a long, soft call of her own.
Where she was once slow and seemingly fragile the gray muzzled female took to hasty paws and began running in the direction of the sound. Soft summer air whipped past her face, ears turned forward in the hopes of hearing the stranger, and black nose searching for their odd scent among all that she knew so well.
Finding him was not hard, and she slowed to approach him gingerly. The wolf was young, and Anu figured him to be a stray from a neighboring pack. Yet another. Blue eyes looked him over, silence on her tongue as she examined him, perhaps testing his patience as she watched.
Her stoic demeanor turned warmer as she spoke. This is Crimson Dreams, I am Anu the Praetor here. What is your name young one? Anu asked, her voice far softer then one might think as she looked him over a second time. They were always happy to accept the loners the neutral lands brought them. It was their purpose, to keep them safe and give them the family they may have lost.
